Navied Mahdavian

New Yorker cartoonist, Navied Mahdavian, will discuss how he finds humor outside the pages of the New Yorker: as a new father, as the child of Iranian immigrants, and most importantly, as a man approaching 40.

Navied Mahdavian is a New Yorker cartoonist and writer. His debut memoir, This Country: Searching for Home in (Very) Rural America (Chronicle Books, 2023), chronicled his three years in rural Idaho during the first Trump presidency and was an NPR, Barnes and Noble, and New Yorker book of the year. He has received fellowships from MacDowell and La Napoule and has been a featured speaker at TED and on The Moth Radio Hour.
