Eric Markarian
Eric Markarian is a third-year undergraduate majoring in Bioengineering and Health Systems Design, with plans to attend medical school after Stanford. He is also minoring in Iranian Studies. Originally from Los Angeles, Eric is of Armenian descent, with family roots that have been deeply intertwined with Iran for several generations. His academic interests lie in the intersection of bioengineering, health technology, and the social determinants of health. Eric is passionate about understanding how socioeconomic and cultural factors can influence health outcomes and exploring how these insights can improve healthcare systems in countries like Armenia.
In addition to his academic studies, Eric is also the founder of ABMDR NextGen. NextGen is the youth subsidiary of the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry, an organization of 30,000 stem cell donors that finds matches for patients with blood disorders where traditional registries have been unable to. Eric has been recognized by the California Legislature Assembly as the 2022 Volunteer of the Year for his work addressing healthcare disparities and fostering health equity across borders.
